Spain won the World Cup and Paul, the octopus got it right again!
Created a few hours before the final match, this illustration shows my faith in Paul’s predictions, making it the focus of a piece about the global reach of the world cup fever. Had the Neatherlands won the match, Paul would have still been newsworthy and a good metaphor for the article, but accurately predicting all of Germany’s results plus the final match, made this common octopus living in a Sea Life Center in Oberhausen a star.
On the Zoom section opening page of today’s i newspaper, an illustration about the heat wave we’ve been feeling these days.
Uncomfortably squeezed with each other, European leaders are trying to work together to find solutions for the crisis.
On the day of the Portugal - Ivory Coast match, a double page with the most important moments from the Portuguese World Cup participation, from Eusébio to Cristiano Ronaldo.
As a kid, I would spend all my school recesses and lunch breaks quietly reading in a corner. (No, I wasn’t very popular with the other kids…). Needless to say, I loved the Famous Five, the Secret Seven, and anything else by Enid Blyton but I particularly liked the O’Sulivan Twins - As Gémeas, in portuguese.
Another Sex and the City movie, another excuse to parade a million designer dresses. Ok, not a million, Carrie uses a total of 41 different looks throughout the movie.

Portrait of the scientist who created the first synthetic cell, for the section opening page and cover of i newspaper.
As the first signs of quiet protest and social unrest start to appear in response to the tax raises and other government measures to face the financial crisis, I was asked to create this illustration for today’s i newspaper, both for the section opening page and the cover.
It’s been a year today since “i” newspaper came out - Happy Birthday! - and I was asked to create a full page illustration with portraits of people reading the newspaper.
For this illustration about the boom of social media network gaming, I was asked to create yet another parody of the well known Grant Wood painting “American Gothic”, with elements of the most popular Facebook game, Farmville.
