Bath time

Hey, this bathtub looks huge! And Dad is coming in too! How strange! What are those? Other babies? This is crowded, dudes! Oh, look, toys! I want them all! Hey, what is this pink hat you’re making me wear? Take it off! Who wears a hat in the bath anyway?”

Literally cheeky

The first time I posted some photos of my baby niece, she was 4-month old, and starting to eat solid food. She turned out to be very talented at eating. She’s now double that age and double the cheeks.

WordPress 2.5 is out

It’s another clue to how geek I am that I’m all excited about the release of a new software version. But WordPress isn’t just any software, it’s the platform this site is built on, and one of my favourite working tools. The eagerly awaited version 2.5 is finally out, with a much needed back office redesign (by Happy Cog) and loads of new features, that I can’t wait to explore.

Gravity Pods

We all know how airplanes in the cold season are cesspools of germs, so the price to pay for a weekend in London turned out to be a few days under the weather. More exactly, a few days under blankets and a pile of tissue paper, feeding on lemsip, cough syrup and mom’s soup.

All better now, but to compensate my very few regular readers for this posting absence, I have a small gift. A link to the best online game I’ve played in ages. It’s so simple, yet so addictive, it’s actually a good thing it’s got only 50 levels, or I might not post for another month! It’s called Gravity Pods, go play!

Buy it now (or regret it later)

This is the funny threat painted on a wall in Oxford Circus’ Topshop. And it sums up why I always end up spending so much money when I come to London.

As a recovering shopaholic, I learned to follow a simple rule to prevent impulse buying: Don’t buy it now (if you still really want it, come back tomorrow). And Lisbon is a small enough city for this to work.

Book Video Awards

My dear friend, the awesome animation director Catia Peres has been busy with the Book Video Awards 2008, an innovating program that aims to create video trailers to promote books.

She directed the trailer for “Monsters of Templeton”, a novel by Lauren Groff, and you can watch it on the Book Seller magazine website.

If home is where the heart is, then I’m broken hearted.

I was born in Lisbon, lived there most of my life and it’s my favourite place in the world. It’s quite a small city, pretty and charming, quirky and of a relaxed personality. And the light… Lisbon has the most beautiful sunshine, it’s the kind of light that makes you a happier person. Home was definitely Lisbon, that’s where my heart was.

Go sell crazy some place else…

… were all stocked up here. - Jack Nicholson, As good as it gets.

A crazy guy was talking loudly in the supermarket, today. On the outside of the till line, he ranted to the queueing customers about the disgrace of not having a girlfriend, pacing left and right, making broad gestures as he spoke. I know girls only like strong guys with great bodies, he said, but I’m sensitive, intelligent and cultured. I write poetry and I even have a blog, on some-unintelligible-blog-address-dot-com! And still, no women will even look at me!

Tell me why I don’t like… Fridays

Everybody seems to dislike Sundays. It’s almost universal. It should be a good, restful day but somehow it’s ruined by the sad realisation that the weekend is past its mid-point and by the painful anticipation of the approaching Monday. I wanted to say it’s more of a self-fulfilled prophecy created by our glass-half-empty imaginations than anything else. But I’m an optimistic person who likes Mondays, and I’m still mysteriously affected by the Sunday blues.

Valentine’s Day is here at last!!

I remember when it was all about sending cute cards. But eventually someone realised that brands could sell more if they could convince women that they were entitled to expensive gifts on that day. And how hard could that be?

Oh no!…

Camden Market was ravaged by huge fire. How sad!

Lately, I’ve been missing London a lot, so I booked a short trip at the end of the month, just to take in a bit of the city I called home only two years ago. And a visit to Camden was, of course, on my plans for the weekend.

A simple question

I wear glasses and spend most waking hours attached to a MacBook Pro, I’m excited by gadgets but not by clothes or shoes, I love programming and hate going to the gym, I’m a better make-up artist on photoshop than on my own face, I IM and email more than I speak, and yes, I do this.

So… Geek, me?

Babysitting Lesson #1

How to feed a 6-month baby:

1. Talk gibberish and make all sort of ridiculous noises and faces in front of the baby.
2. Find out which combinations make him/her laugh the most and repeat them.
3. Sneak in a spoonful of green grub while the mouth is open due to laughter.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until most the food is gone - you may have to go back to step 1 if step 2 stops working.

Result: A happy, well fed child, and green grub all over the your face, your clothes, the baby and the couch.

(No photos have been taken, in order to spare the camera from an otherwise unavoidable green yucky coating)
