A place to sleep in the city that never does…

Decisions, decisions… In the city that never sleeps, how fancy does the accommodation have to be? With all there is to see, I don’t intend to spend much time in bed anyway.

In a few years time, I’ll surely be flying to New York first class and staying at the Waldorf Astoria. But for now, seeing as I’m not swimming in a pool of dollars (yet), should I splash out on an ensuite private bedroom, or save my money for shopping?

Have tickets, will fly

My hand was kind of shaky when I pressed the button. Suddenly, there were butterflies in my stomach. I finally dared make New York more than just one of those things I keep saying I’ll do, eventually.

Start spreading the news…

… I’m leaving, not today, but soon.

For the first time in a couple of years, I’m having a proper vacation. In October, on my own, for two weeks, in New York City.

I’m a total New York virgin, so all help is welcome. What should I see, where should I stay, what can’t I miss?

Indiana Jones explained

I know, I know, the Crystal Skull is so last season, Batman is all the rage now (and with good reason, if I may say so). But I just read a funny review, and thought I might share it anyway… hoping I don’t offend any blogging gods with my untimely post.

Woop-a-woo!

As I chatted with friends in a party, last week, about the (sometimes rude) compliments shouted by construction workers to women passing by, we concluded they are a thing of the past, a myth, something you’re more likely to see on film and tv than in real life. Well, we were wrong.

Business as usual

After a turbulent weekend in my corner of the web, things are finally back to normal. Or almost. I could say the stars have been against me lately, with all the stuff that’s been happening, but yet again, I brought this onto myself. Not as literally as with the hot oil, but still…

Snatched domain

It’s true, patriciafurtado.com was bought by a domain collection service, and I think there has been some unfairness from the company I had it registered with. While I try to sort everything out, the website is now back to its old house, pap-l.com.

Kitchen Disasters Inc.

The weekend I’ve decided to dedicate to baking has barely started, and already there is trouble in the horizon. I guess burning my leg with boiling olive oil two weeks ago and spilling my dinner on the kitchen floor a couple of days ago should have been interpreted as signs to stay away, but it takes more than a second degree burn to keep me out.

Hello Apple, goodbye Euro

Despite being locomotively challenged because of the accident, yesterday I still managed to check out the eagerly awaited opening of the TB Store in Lisbon - our own, if unofficial, Apple Store.

How I fried my leg

It was clearly long overdue. I’m a multi-tasking, clumsy and often careless cook, and yet I’d never had a serious accident in the kitchen. Spilled food, broken dishes, small cuts or splatter burns are common, of course. But I had never had anything happen to me that would require any sort of medical assistance.

Sad day for the internet…

…when you wake up to see that Tastespotting is gone. Gathering under one roof all the beautiful food photography and yummy recipes that are scattered around the web, I was heavily addicted to it and I’m already feeling withdrawal symptoms. Sad, sad day.

A tourist in my own town

Sometimes, it’s good to go out with fresh eyes and visit familiar places as if you were seeing them for the first time.

Yesterday, I took my camera for a spin and went looking for a bit of that holiday feeling. First stop, the flea Lisbon market, Feira da Ladra, where I bought two stripy skirts and haggled on a cute little gold decorated dish for my photos. After a gorgeous octopus lunch on a terrace, I visited the Lisbon Pantheon (photos here), had a coffee at the Graça belvedere and then walked to St.Georges Castle, to visit a crafts fair.

The secret dress code of online newspapers

In the process of designing a website with lots of different bits of information, I found myself doing some research on online newspapers. Because internet surfers don’t usually navigate very deep into websites, online newspapers try to display as many snippets of content and news stories as they possibly can on their homepage, trying to lure […]

I’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you

Favourite new video!

My friend and music expert Gabi made me listen to this song ages before it was playing on MTV2, and I loved it since then. But now the Black Kids have a new cool video directed by Chris Doyle, so I must share it. Take a look!
